Description

Siemtcoat® EM5503

Emulsion Silicone Release Coating for Paper & PET Film

Siemtcoat® EM5503 is an advanced two-component emulsion-based system, specifically formulated to deliver superior performance in both paper and PET film coating applications.

General

A two-component emulsion-based system, specially designed for food paper, PET, ect. substrate coatings.

We recommend the following formulas:

Siemtcoat® EM5503 (Base Polymer)

Siemtcoat® EM5509 (Catalyst)

Applications

Siemtcoat® EM5503, a safe and environmentally friendly emulsion-based silicone release coating, can be widely applied to paper, PET film, etc. Its applications span across the following fields:

  • Baking processing of food
  • Personal care hygiene materials
  • Express envelopes, advertising materials
  • Various transparent labels, etc.

Advantages

Siemtcoat® EM5503 is suitable for various coating machines, especially suitable for direct coating on paper machines or solvent-based release agent coating equipment for coating processing, thereby conveniently replacing solvent-based products, with the following characteristics:

  • Fast curing
  • Suitable for in-line and off-line coating
  • Good bath stability
  • Excellentanchorage performance to different papers and films
  • Low peeling force

Processing

When applying Siemtcoat® EM5503 into the Siemtcoat system, please strictly adhere to the following mixing procedure:

  1.  Weigh the base polymer Siemtcoat® EM5503---XX parts.
  2.  Add the water, mix thoroughly to ensure the solids content >XX%.
  3.  Weigh the catalyst Siemtcoat® EM5509---XX parts, and add it during mixing.
  4.  Continue mixing until the catalyst achieves a uniform distribution throughout the mixture.

For detailed formulation guidance, feel free to contact us.

Precautions: When opening the lid of the Emulsion main polymer, observe whether there is any swelling or gas buildup.

If no gas expansion is observed, it is recommended to wear anti-static clothing, discharge static electricity before operation, open the cover with a metal tool, and then slowly open the vent valve using an explosion-proof drum opener. After opening the vent valve, leave the area and wait for a few minutes to allow residual hydrogen gas inside the drum to escape. Then proceed with the sampling operation.

In case of barrel expansion, first move the barrel to an open outdoor area, perform static electricity elimination on the barrel shell, and then follow the previous operational procedure.

The detail information could consult us for the formulation advice.

Bath life

The bath life of all Siemtcoat systems depends on formulation, equipment, mixing process, temperature, and environment. Siemtcoat® EM5503 only does not alter its original bath life, typically lasting about 6 hours at 40℃.

Release force

Release force performance depends on multiple factors.

We measure release force using different substrates and adhesives to define its characteristics. While  the  standard  release  force  measure  could use standard tape to measure.

Typical release force performance:

Tesa Tape 7475 (23℃): 5 to 15 g/25mm (0.3 m/min peeling speed)

Curing

The curing results of the Siemtcoat system depend primarily on the formulation, substrate quality, curing temperature, and oven efficiency. We obtained the following results:

Substrate Temperature Curing Time
50μPET 130℃

<12s

(Curing time is defined as the minimum curing duration without any smear, rub-off, or migration of the release coating layer.)

Operational Precautions

Siemtcoat® EM5503 releases hydrogen gas slowly. The rate of hydrogen release will accelerate under the action of a catalyst, or if it is contaminated by alkaline substances,  heavy  metals  or  their  compounds.  Do  not  place  the  emulsion  in  a container without ventilation openings.

Keep Siemtcoat®  EM5503 away from sparks and open flames, and ensure good ventilation in the use area. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. To prevent pressure accumulation during hydrogen release, it is recommended to ventilate the containers holding the base emulsion regularly. In this way, no pressure will build up even if the container's ventilation openings are blocked.

Pre-use Inspection & Barrel Opening Operation

First check the barrel for bulging before any operation.

If  no  bulging   is  observed:  Wear  anti-static  clothing  and  discharge  static electricity prior to operation; open the cover with metal tools, then slowly open the breather valve  with  an  explosion-proof barrel  opener.  Step  away  from  the  barrel immediately after opening the valve and wait a few minutes for the small amount of residual hydrogen inside to escape, then conduct sampling operations.

If bulging occurs: First move the barrel to an open outdoor area, eliminate static electricity on the barrel’s outer surface, then follow the above barrel opening procedure.

Static Electricity Prevention

Static electricity may be generated when SI-H products flow through pipelines, are discharged from pipelines or fall freely. Appropriate measures shall be taken to eliminate static electricity and avoid spark generation.

Equipment Cleaning

When cleaning equipment containing Siemtcoat® EM5503 emulsion, use surfactants and detergents with caution. These agents are alkaline and may induce hydrogen gas generation.
